January 15th and 17th

Our projects and games this week focused on the letter Q, number 7 and the color black. We missed our friends Tristan (who was sick) and Talia (who was in Canada). We finger painted over "Q"s made with q-tips. We pulled out the multicolored scarves to dance around our number circle (made with colored electrical tape on the ground) until the music stopped and then the children tried to land on the magical number 7.
An elaborate pretend game developed during free play time. The ladies were each their own unique version of Mary and Jacob was Joseph. The little nativity actors informed me that a carriage was needed, thus the two chairs with sheet covering where "Joseph" was tending to his workshop (i.e. his Thomas trains).
We worked on a floor puzzle together. Everyone had a chance to out in pieces and they helped each other find the pieces they were missing.

On Thursday, we played our musical number game using the scarves as we danced around again. We also worked on a major coloring, cutting and gluing project: a baa baa black sheep paper bag puppet! This took a lot of concentration from the preschoolers, but it was worth it to dance around the circle with their puppets singing while I played on the piano. We also made up our own version of "Five Little Ducks" called "Three Little Qs". I was the "Q" who called back the "q"s with the letter sound. During lunch we pulled out our glass bowl again and tried to predict what would happen when we poured in water from a tall glass. We then put different items in the bowl to test whether they would sink or float. They loved the oil the most.
