This Week in Preschool 8-30-12

We had an exciting first week of preschool. On Thursday, we met all of our preschool friends.  Everyone seemed excited to open their preschool window and start doing puzzles with their friends. We sang our welcome song and another song “Caitlin over the water, Caitlin over the sea, Caitlin catches a (fill in sea creature), but she can’t catch me” as an “ice-breaker”. We then observed the weather and updated our calendar. This was followed by making a circle and playing “Duck, Duck, Goose” and then making up our own pizzas on paper plates. We then made a capital “A” with popsicle sticks and painted a silly monster with one eye.  There was lots of fun conversation to enjoy. Talia told us about how she rented a Cinderella movie at the McCully library and Tristan told us he ate cockroaches at his house! Heidi mentioned that her grandparents have princess movies. June, Caitlin and Heidi played with baby dolls and Jacob was “sick” and visited Dr. Tristan and Dr. Talia. I was surprised at how long everyone wanted to continue to work on their individual projects, such as painting or drawing, and will try to schedule only one project or activity per topic in the future.

On Friday we started with some new puzzles. Heidi and Jacob teamed up to put the bug and fish puzzles together. The preschoolers also tried some 12-piece and 24-piece puzzles and enjoyed the challenge. We had a treasure hunt for circle-shaped objects and traced a cup and added a line to make a lowercase “A”. We used an apple core as a stamp to decorate our pictures. Dr. Talia was in again at playtime. The band returned, too, with first Jacob, then Heidi, on the drums. Caitlin and Heidi took a trip to “Jamba Juice”. Tristan and Jacob played trains. Jacob brought Benjamin a train, too, which made the littlest preschooler content. We also worked on our book. We pasted in some pictures and sent the rest to be finished up at home (tip: score the papers so they fold easier and put tape over the back of the brads so they stay in place). I hope you enjoy looking at this book with your child and letting them share with you about their preschool.
